Meet the Doctor

Serban A. Olaru DMD, FCII   

Dr. Olaru, a resident of Coeur D’Alene and Bonners Ferry, Idaho, was born in Eastern Europe and escaped communism as a young teenager by moving with his family to the United States in 1982.             

 EDUCATION & TRAINING    

 In 1989, Serban Olaru graduated Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania with a degree of Bachelor of Arts with High Honors in Religion and Sociology.  Between 1989 and 1991, he completed his predoctoral sciences program at Columbia University in New York City.      

 Dr. Olaru graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) with a Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) in 1997. He proceeded to complete a post graduate fellowship in Oral Medicine in 1999 and a one year post graduate training in specialist level Periodontics in 2000, both at UMDNJ.      

 Dr. Olaru has been placing and restoring implants since 2005.   Dr. Olaru completed an Oral Implantology Fellowship conferred by the California Implant Institute and University of Nevada Dental School in 2019. 

PRACTICE EXPERIENCE      

 Dr. Olaru has been in private practice since 1999 in various dental offices ranging from New York and New Jersey to the Annette Island Federal Dental Clinic in Alaska and in Marysville, Washington.       

 Today he is limiting his practice to Oral Medicine, Oral Implantology, Prosthetics and Gum and Alveolar Bone Regeneration procedures with Platelet Rich Plasma, Growth Factors and Stem Cells.  His field of practice is Regeneration, Multiple Implant Placement and Implant Prosthetics with Implant Retained Full Dentures and Fixed Implant Supported Hybrid Prosthetic Appliances.

RESEARCHER      

 His past endeavors were in the field of Neurophysiology research at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ (UMDNJ) where he has published research papers on pain transmission mechanisms in the Trigeminal System (Head and Neck Pain Pathways).

CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR      

 Dr. Olaru has been a clinical instructor in the Oral Medicine Departments at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and at the University of Washington Dental School, Seattle, WA.   Dr. Olaru is currently a Clinical Instructor at the California Implant Institute, San Diego, CA.

FAMILY      

 Dr. Olaru’s wife, Ingrid Lintmaer Olaru, MD, works as an Internal Medicine Hospitalist Physician at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA while being a full-time mother to their son and daughter.
